Hearts of Oak knocked arch rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko out of the GHALCA G-6 tournament yesterday with a hard fought 6-5 win to book a place in the finals.
Prince Acquah’s feeble penalty was saved by Benjamin Mensah after the 1-1 draw game had been taken to the spot-kicks.
Kotoko, who have been in top form and were the bookmakers’ favourites, found themselves trailing, after Hearts took the lead from the spot.
Nimble footed, Patrick Razak, cut through the Kotoko defence and dribble past Kotoko’s goalkeeper Felix Annan, who fouled him in the box.
Kotoko showed determination and cancelled Hearts’ lead via penalty after a Hearts defender had touched the ball with his hand in the box.
Kotoko skipper, Amos Frimpong, perfectly converted from the spot, bringing life back to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Both teams searched for the winner but Kotoko looked more dangerous, as they made several incursions into Hearts’ danger area but they could not score.
