CPP Executives Dump Greenstreet For Nana

Ivor Kobina Greenstreet

Executives of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the Atwima-Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region have thrown their weight behind Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), whose message of change has resonated with people across the country.

They are Eric Kwaku Boakye, Chairman, Gabriel Azumah, Second Vice-Chairman, Andrews Ofori, Secretary and Elizabeth Ansere, Deputy Women’s Organiser.

According to them, the CPP has become impotent as a result of the lack of logistics and funds.

In an interaction with the media, the CPP executives said the NPP and its presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo remain the best bet to capture power from the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has plunged the country into economic and leadership crises.

The CPP executives indicated that they were also rooting for the NPP parliamentary candidate, Dr Kojo Appiah Kubi because the CPP candidate cannot make any meaningful impact due to the lack of resources to prosecute effective campaign.

Mr. Kwaku Boakye, the constituency chairman, said they abandoned the CPP after realising that their efforts would be in vain.

“No leader has given us any logistics to work with, let alone funds. They simply don’t care about what goes on at the grassroots, and we cannot keep on sacrificing all the time,” he noted.

According to him, communication has been very poor from the top echelon of the party, intimating that the executives and the parliamentary candidate have been left in the dark in relation to party affairs.

He stated that the decision to declare support for Nana Addo and the NPP ahead of this year’s elections was collectively made by the executives in the constituency.

Mr Boakye said all the nine executives had agreed to work for the NPP and its parliamentary candidates.

“We know Nana Addo and Dr Appiah Kubi can do the work, and we’re rooting for them,” Vice Chairman Gabriel Azumah affirmed.

Secretary Andrews Ofori, who shared similar sentiments, added that they would team up with the NPP to capture political power from the NDC.

“Yes, we have a candidate in the constituency but lack of operational logistics, coupled with challenges of the party, would make it difficult for our candidate to make an appreciable impact in the forthcoming elections,” he explained.
