There was heavy vehicular traffic on the Takoradi-Accra Highway yesterday as result of an accident involving an articulated truck at Supom Dunkwaw, near the Beposo Bridge over the River Pra.
The accident, which occurred at about 11 am on Monday, caused vehicular traffic on the Takoradi-Accra Road for about four hours.
It was unclear how many people were in the truck but some of the residents alleged that they saw an individual bleeding.
The cause of the accident was not known, but according to eyewitnesses the articulated truck was conveying some chemicals from Accra to Takoradi when the accident happened.
They claimed the articulated truck, upon reaching Supom Dunkwaw, skidded and landed on its side on the road.
They attributed the accident to the slippery nature of the road as a result of about an hour of torrential rainfall in the area on Monday morning.
All vehicles moving from Accra to Takoradi and vice versa could not move.
When DAILY GUIDE got to the accident scene at about 3pm, frustrated passengers, who were travelling to their respective destinations, had become stranded.
The purported chemicals, which were being transported by the truck, scattered on the road.
“If a heavy recovery truck does not come in to clear the mess, it doesn’t look like we the passengers can make any headway,” one of the passengers remarked.
Another passenger stated that “the accident has negatively affected all busy workers who ply this route.”
According to reports, parts of the articulated truck were badly damaged.
As at the time of filing this report, some officers from the Ghana Police Service, Motor Transport Traffic Department (MTTD) and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were at the scene to help tow the damaged articulated truck to ease traffic on the highway.
