The burnt toll booth
A GROUP of unknown persons reportedly from Fiapre, Dumesua, Mentukwa and the surrounding towns along the Sunyani-Berekum highways in the Brong-Ahafo Region have allegedly burned down the toll booth at Fiapre.
Petty traders by the booth attributed the act to overzealousness of persons claiming to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after Nana Akufo-Addo, standard bearer of the party, had been declared winner of the 2016 presidential election on Friday.
According to a bread seller who preferred anonymity, the incident happened Friday between the hours of 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm – immediately after the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei, had declared the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo, president-elect of the 2016 general election.
According to the trader, since that Friday night up till to press time yesterday, workers at the booth are afraid to come to work and so motorists plying the road have been passing without paying any toll.
A visit to the site by DAILY GUIDE revealed the burnt booth together with other items such as tickets, chairs, notebooks and identity cards. According to the bread sellers, it was personnel from the Ghana Fire Service that came and put off the blaze in the night.

The regional police command said the matter had not come to its attention and directed the paper to the district police command. The Municipal Police Commander, DSP Franklin Kramo, told DAILY GUIDE on phone that though he had heard of the incident, he was yet to have first-hand information on it.
Meanwhile, DAILY GUIDE has learnt that some chiefs from Dumesua and Mentukwa had visited the scene and were angry with whoever who led the mob to cause the destruction.
