Ghana’s finest Golf Club, Achimota delivered a befitting birthday present to its president Nana Atta Nyamekye with a President Putter competition at the Club on Saturday.
The Shot-Gun competition commemorated the 80th milestone of its illustrious president, who was joined by his family, friends and golfers to mark the day.
It also coincided with the birthday anniversary of the Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipaining, a consistent and committed golfer at the Club.
It was fine gentleman Ben Adu Owusu, who won the flagship prize (President Putter) donated by the president and serving as a running prize.
The Express Capital CEO, 19 handicapper recorded an impressive 66 net, beating Bishop Steve Asare to reign supreme, while Ian Cole, Leslie Du Plesis and John Aidoo followed in that order.
Saturday’s feat makes it his fourth silverware this year, having lifted two Monthly Medals and Mazda Classics.
Royal Golf Club’s (Kumasi) Cynthia Nyantakyi, (69net) snatched the ladies top most prize from seasoned golfer Beatrice Vetsch-Benpong with a stroke with Leticia Amponsah Mensah, former Achimota Lady captain finishing third with a 72 net.
She extended her dominance to the ladies longest drive category, while Michael Afreh picked the men’s event.
A 26 point delivered the Best Putter prize (Men) to Eric Sowah Oddoye with young Catherine Fabbi winning the ladies’ segment.
Ann Beverly Brown and Ofori Boateng finished as the ladies’ and men’s Closest to the pin winners respectively.
The birthday celebrant commended the club and all who made his anniversary celebration worthwhile.
In like manner, Club captain Dr Frank Adu Jnr., lauded golfers who travelled from far and near for making the day a grand one for the two celebrants.
