Some members of the Invisible Forces at the tollbooth
Some members of the Invisible Forces, a group aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are keeping guard at some government revenue collection points in Tema.
According to the over 50 youth, they took the action to prevent the looting of state properties and resources by some influential members of the outgoing government.
They claimed some members of the ruling government have started stealing some state property due to the change in government.
The Invisible Forces has therefore deployed men at the security points at the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) in Tema, tollbooths on the Tema-Accra Motorway and other state installations.
The group allegedly ransacked a tollbooth and moved the money into their car.
The party recently issued a statement to condemn similar attacks in various parts of the country and cautioned members to desist from engaging in any violent acts.
However, police personnel in the Tema Region, upon hearing about the activities of the group at tollbooth, deployed armed personnel to the area who dispersed them from the area and retrieved the monies.
A man, who gave his name as Mohammed Ali, Commander of the Tema Branch of the Invisible Forces, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE at the tollbooth on the motorway on Monday dawn, disclosed that they had received information that some members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) had begun to loot the resources of the State.
According to him, they deployed their personnel to various state institutions in Tema to monitor activities there.
“We have picked signal which indicates that some people in the current government have started looting state resources since they are leaving government.
“We are not here to loot anything from this place and you can see that the monies we seized were returned to the people after they taught us how they manage the business here to know how much NPP should expect when we take over completely. Their earlier refusal to comply led to misunderstanding between us, but I can assure you that we are not going to take or hijack any property but we will rather protect and monitor things until the next government takes office,” the commander of the Invisible Forces added.
Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command, has stated that no illegal group would be allowed to take over the tollbooth or any other state institution in the region.
