Parliament will resume on Tuesday, December 20 to wrap up its work before its dissolution to pave way for the seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic which will be controlled by New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MP).
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which lost 49 seats in the parliamentary elections, suffered a devastating electoral defeat at the hands of the NPP which increased its seats from 122 to 171.
In the presidential election, Nana Akufo-Addo secured an overwhelming 53.85 percent of the total valid votes.
This is the first time in the history of Ghana that the flagbearer of an opposition party has defeated an incumbent president with a huge margin.
NDC MPs such as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh; Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo; former Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka; Deputy Minister for Education, Alex Kyeremeh; Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Baba Jamal; Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw and Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Murtala Mohammed might not show up at all when parliament resumes on Tuesday for fear of being teased by their counterparts from the minority.
Predictably taunting and teasing would overshadow the activities of the MPs in parliament.
High on the agenda would be the Right to Information Bill which had gone through the second reading, and is expected to be passed before this parliament is finally dissolved.
Interestingly, the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, also campaigned vigorously in his former constituency, Akatsi South in the Volta Region for the NDC.
Generally, the current speaker has been fair in the handling of the affairs of the sixth parliament.
The Minority NPP will certainly take control of the business of the House, knowing very that it would also take total control of the next parliament, which would be inaugurated on the eve of January 7 with absolute majority.
