The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede, has called on Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to support him to embark on a massive campaign to positively change the image of the chieftaincy institution in the country.

He stated that with the support of the Asantehene, his administration would work hard to restore nobility and reverence to the chieftaincy institution which would ultimately ensure the socio-economic development of the country.

“I am looking forward to having a close and fruitful working relationship with His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene which will help restore nobility and reverence to the chieftaincy institution.

“I am also committed to working with you to support the government of the day to help expedite the development of our country to help bring relief to our people,” he indicated.

Togbe Afede XIV, who was recently elected as the President of the National House of Chiefs, made the remarks when he stormed the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday to partake in the ‘Awukudae’ celebrations of the Asante people.

He was accompanied to the palace by scores of prominent paramount chiefs and queen mothers from the Volta Region, including the Paramount Chief of Aflao, Togbe Amenya Fiti V, among others.

Togbe Afede also expressed his readiness and desire to work closely with the Asantehene to help unite Asantes and Ewes which would ultimately reflect in other parts of the country.

He said the country would experience massive growth if the chiefs and people from the various parts of the country unite and live peacefully as one people with a common destiny, noting that uniting the people would be his top priority.

Commiserates Otumfuo

Togbe Afede commiserated with the Asantehene over the death of his mother, Asantehema Nana Afia Serwah Kobi Ampem, who passed on at the age of 111.

He said the death of the Asantehemaa saddened all Ghanaians.

Togbe Afede also thanked the Asantehene for his personal support, which helped him to be elected as the president of the National House of Chiefs during the House’s recent elections.

He stated that his tenure as leader of the National House of Chiefs would result in massive transformation of the chieftaincy institution which would positively impact the growth of the country.
