The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has indicated that it would contest the parliamentary results of the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region in court.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the results from some polling stations were massaged to enable the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Okletey Terlarbi, retain his seat.
The parliamentary candidate of the NPP, Samuel Ayertey Nuettey, has refused to accept defeat in the just-ended parliamentary election, because according to him, pink sheets from six polling stations – Asitey Manguam, Atua Hospital Junction B, Agormanya Market area B, Kpong water works and Kpong Methodist Chapel B – were brought to the Collation Centre a day after voting (on December 7) and that the figures were doctored.
Samuel Ayertey Nuettey said the results according to the collation sheets, were 1,971 votes for the NDC and 19,383 for the NPP, but before the six constituencies results arrived the verdict had changed in Mr. Terlabi’s favour, and he suspected foul play.
“I refused to sign the results declaration form and requested for recount of all the ballots cast in the constituency because there were a lot of irregularities and cancellations.. .….. by the Returning Officer on the final collation sheets but the EC refused to check the anomalies and went ahead to declare Okeletey Terlabi the winner,” Mr Nuettey claimed.
It took the intervention of both anti-riot police and military personnel to forestall any conflict as angry and incensed NPP supporters charged and cursed electoral officers who were collating the results at the premises of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.
This followed the disappearance of six presiding members and their pink sheets whose whereabouts could not be determined in the middle of the collation exercise.
The issue of the disappearance of the six officers was later resolved when one of them was traced to his house and brought back to account for his work. The others who had also vanished into thin air, later resurfaced with the pink sheets stuck firmly in their armpits.
