Police officers at the Tamale Metro Health Insurance Office
Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizers invaded the premises of the Tamale Metro Health Office to cause commotion at the facility.
The supporters claimed the office was being occupied by National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives whose party was defeated in the just-ended general elections.
Activities at the Tamale Metro Health Insurance Office came to a halt as a result of the activities of the youth.
The NDC, upon capturing power in 2009, sacked the people working in most of the NHIS facilities and posted NDC activists and executives to the various offices.
The Tamale Metro Health Insurance Manager, Mr Sallam, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the youth ordered all the workers to vacate the premises.
“I told the youth that they cannot take over a state institution in an unlawful manner, he said.
He said he advised the youth to get authorization from the relevant authorities and the police.
Mr. Sallam stated that the youth, numbering about 30, were not armed and so they did not destroy any property at the office.
Currently, no arrests have been made so far in connection with the matter.
ASP Appraku of the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) Unit of the Northern Regional Police Command, told DAILY GUIDE that some police personnel had been stationed at the Tamale Metro Health Insurance Office to protect lives and property.
According to him, the police would investigate the matter and effectively protect residents of the region.
