THE ELLEN Aldrich Trust, a charity organization has commissioned a refurbished dormitory facility for male students of the Ghana Centre for the Socially Disadvantaged.

The Centre formerly known as the Kaneshie Cripples Home is the first beneficiary of the Ellen Aldrich Trust’s charitable works in the country.

Chairman of Ellen Aldrich Trust, Charles Osei Asibey speaking at a short but colorful ceremony on Tuesday in Accra to hand-over the refurbished male dormitory to the authorities of the Centre said, his outfit visited the Home in December 2016 and realized that the dormitory was in a deplorable state.

He said initially, the visit to the Centre was to celebrate the festive season with the inmates but after realizing the poor state of the dormitory, they decided to forego the celebration and rather refurbish the dormitory.

According to him, the Ellen Aldrich Trust spent about GH¢15,000 to refurbish the facility, provide mattresses and flat screen LED television set for the Centre to make life comfortable for the inmates there as any other member of society.

“We will make this place (the Centre) our home,” he said, regarding the Trust’s future plans for the inmates at the Centre.

The Centre, established in 1958 by some well-meaning Ghanaians with the support of the late President Kwame Nkrumah and father of veteran journalist, Kweku Baako Jnr, provides vocational training for the socially disadvantaged within the Ghanaian society.

Manager of the Ghana Centre for the Socially Disadvantaged, Seth Appeagyei said the Centre has trained a lot of disadvantaged individuals over the years.

Currently, he said, the Centre was providing training to 28 students in the areas of tailoring, leather works, and dressmaking.
