Many investors have been attracted to the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s ‘one district, one factory’ policy and have decided to engage in industrial activities in Ghana.

One of such investors is GAMMA MECCANICA SpA, a multi-purpose company from Italy, which is coming to set up a plastic waste recycling factory in the country, with Eudirok Investment GH Ltd. – an indigenous marketing, export and consultancy company – serving as the conduit.

At a media launch of the project in Accra, Daniele Pivetti, Area Sales Manager of GAMMA, was emphatic that the company’s decision to establish a branch in this country was impelled by the government’s ‘one district, one factory’ policy.

Mr Pivetti claimed that he, in collaboration with Eugene Oyoko Baah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eudirok Investment, did a lot of feasibility studies into the nagging issue of waste management in Ghana and were fully convinced that the environment was conducive for GAMMA MECCANICA to carry out plastic recycling in the country.

According to him, the multi-dimensional company – a family one – has been in existence for the past 40 years and that the recycling business began 20 years ago.

In a presentation, he indicated that GAMMA offers a range of plants for the regeneration of thermoplastic materials, adding that 24 districts had been earmarked for the setting up of the factory which would produce 10 tonnes of high quality granules a day for the production of plastic wares.

He asserted that in 1988, the company expanded its business in the field of plastic materials, building complete lines and single machines for the recycling of a wide range of plastic wastes in addition to the production of systems for the mineral wood over the years.

The regeneration machines produced by GAMMA MECCANICA SpA are able to recycle a wide variety of plastic materials in various forms: films, bottles, fabrics, yarns, fibers, according to the type and shape of the material to regenerate.

In his remarks, chairman for the event, Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, one-time minister of state, advised GAMMA and the Eudirok teams to ensure that those who pick the plastic waste are given attractive prices to encourage them to supply the raw materials at all times.

Also present were Dr. Grace Bediako, former Government Statistician; Nana Boakye, a business executive; the Head of Commercial attaché at the Italian Embassy, Ghana and representatives of some business establishments.
