Twenty-six more deputy ministers-designate have been approved by parliament. They were unanimously approved on Friday.
They are Paul Essien (MP for Jomoro) as deputy minister-designate for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs; Tina Ayeley Mensah (MP for Weija/Gbawe), for Health; Dr Ziblim Barri Iddi (MP for Gushegu, Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Collins Ntim (MP for Offinso North), Local Government and Rural Development; Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Regional Reorganisation and Development; William Agyapong Quaittoo (MP for Akim Oda), Food and Agriculture; Gifty Twum-Ampofo (MP for Abuakwa North), Gender, Children and Social Protection and Pius Enam Hadzid, Youth and Sports.
Others are William Kwasi Sabi (MP for Dormaa East), Monitoring and Evaluation; Freda Prempeh (MP for Tano North), Works and Housing; Bright Wireko-Brobby (MP for Lower Hemang Denkyira), Employment and Labour Relations; Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah (MP for Tema West), Trade and Industry and Francis Kingsley Ato Codjoe (MP for Ekumfi), Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The rest are Andy Appiah-Kubi (MP for Asante Akim North), Railways Development; Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum (MP for Bosomtwe), Education; Barbara Oteng-Gyasi (MP for Prestea/Huni Valley), Lands and Natural Resources; Eugene Boakye Antwi (MP for Subin), Works and Housing; Kwasi Boateng Adjei (MP for New Juaben North), Local Government and Rural Development; Vincent Sowah Odotei (MP for Dade Kotopon), Communications; Patrick Yaw Boamah (MP for Okaikwei Central), Sanitation and Water Resources; Major Derek Oduro – rtd – (MP for Nkoranza North), Defence; Dr Sagre Bambangi (MP for Walewale), Food and Agriculture; George Boahen Oduro (MP for New Edubiase), Food and Agriculture; Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah (MP for Ofoase/Ayirebi), Information; Nana Dokuah Asiamah-Agyei (MP for Akwapim North), Information and Charles Owiredu, Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
In his remarks, the minority chief whip, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, said the nominees distinguished themselves at the vetting.
He particularly mentioned the deputy minister-designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dr Ziblim Iddi, for the indepth knowledge he exhibited when he appeared before the Appointments Committee, and expressed the hope that he (Iddi) would use his expertise to improve tourism in the country.
The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, also commended the various nominees and expressed the hope that they would effectively support their ministers in achieving positive results for the nation.
He mentioned the nominee for Food and Agriculture, William Quaittoo, as one person who exhibited enormous knowledge in his field, particularly in the cocoa industry, and expressed the belief that he (Quaittoo) would bring improvement to the agricultural sector.
He said the government’s ‘food for jobs’ policy must be executed without delay to create jobs and ensure food security.
The second deputy speaker, Alban Bagbin, who was presiding, advised the new deputy ministers-designate to see their positions as service to the people and not to go and lord it over them.
The chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, thanked the committee members for working very hard to vet all the ministers and deputy ministers within a very short period.
