Residents of Dagomba Line, a densely populated area in Kumasi inhabited by migrant youth from the three Northern regions of the country, hosted some august visitors on Friday.
The dignitaries were Freddie Blay, acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Osei Assibey Antwi, Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Rashid Bawa, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, among others.
The timely visit, according to the Kumasi Mayor, was in furtherance of the Zongo Development Fund of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is geared towards massively developing deplorable Zongo communities.
The Mayor and his entourage toured the Dagomba Line to ascertain the living conditions of the people.
They also saw stagnant waters, garbage, which had been dumped into open drains and poorly constructed wooden structures which serve as homes for the people.
It would be extremely difficult for anyone to escape in the event of fire outbreak due to congestion at the place which has not been poorly connected to the national grid.
Addressing the people, Mr Osei Assibey expressed grave concern about the poor conditions in the area, pointing out that residents certainly would suffer serious health problems.
He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo introduced the Zongo Development Fund to improve Zongo communities across the country.
Hon. Osei Assibey urged the people to remain calm and law-abiding, adding that very soon the Zongo Development Fund would be rolled out to improve the lives of the people.
