As part of efforts to rid the Sunyani municipality of criminals, the police in the Brong-Ahafo Region have embarked on swoops in various parts of the city and arrested 32 suspected criminals,
including wee peddlers and smokers
Ten of them were arrested with wrapped pieces of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (wee) as well as other items suspected to be stolen goods. They will be arraigned before court for prosecution.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE on the exercise, the Regional Police Crime Officer, Superintendent Nana Kwaku Duah, said the operation was carried out at Zongo Down, Dumase, Ebro Dzom (Maize Market) and Abesim. He said apart from the above-named items, a microwave, a monitor, a toaster, a buster, a standing fun, 4 pairs of scissors, 4 packets of King Size cigarettes, speakers and 3 boxes of tramadol – an orthodox drug that has emotional effects, were also retrieved from the suspects.
Supt. Nana Kwaku Duah said after screening, those found to be blameless would be freed whilst the ten others found with the items would be prosecuted.
They are Mohammed Salia, Benjamin Asante, Kwaku Adonko, Mohammed Issahaku, Adam Ibrahim, Yaubu Dawaa, Emmanuel Fokuo, Emmanuel Frimpong, Mohammed Abubakar and Awal Mohammed. They will be charged with stealing, smoking and possessing narcotic substances without lawful authority.
The regional crime officer stressed that the police command in the region, under DCOP Tachie-Poku, was intensifying intelligence policing to flush criminals out of their hiding places and bring them to book.
