The Enchi Police Command in the Western Region have arrested 49-year-old Baba Alhassan, who allegedly inflicted deep cutlass wounds on the legs of his 13-year-old grandson, Michael Atengah, for attempting to steal his money.
The ‘wicked’ grandfather purportedly locked up the poor little boy in a room for about a week.
After news broke out, the boy was rushed to the hospital where the doctors amputated the right leg, which had rotten to the extent that it had maggots.
According to the Enchi District Police, the suspect was charged with causing harm and would soon be hauled before the court.
ASP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), noted that on May 1, 2017, one Kwasi Michael of Nyamebekyire, near Enchi and Francis Botwey reported the matter to the police.
The complainants disclosed that about a week ago, the suspect subjected the little boy to severe beatings and inflicted cutlass wounds on the legs for attempting to steal his money through the ceiling of his room.
The suspect was quickly arrested and detained.
In a related development, the Enchi Police have arrested four suspects for stealing gold from some dealers.
The complainants-Dennis Hillary, 27 and John Hoyeah, 27, both gold buyers residing at Abokyia, near Enchi, reported the case to the police.
According to them, last Tuesday, they travelled with Awudu Bashiru, 35, a ‘galamsey’ operator on a motorbike with registration number M-5434-16 to go and buy gold.
Essuman Emmanuel, 25, who is a gold buyer and friend of the complainant, conspired with the motorbike rider and two others to rob the complainants of GH¢14,660 cash and gold valued GH¢1,025.
Police quickly arrested the two suspects after complaints were lodged with the police.
The remaining two suspects namely Kofi Combart, 35, and Sulley Bawah, 32, were arrested at separate locations at Bawah Farms, near Kwahu .
The police retrieved two pump action guns, 33 pieces of Live AA and BB cartridges, gold valued GH¢1,025, cash of GH¢14,660.00, a double barrel locally made pistol and a SB Baikal shotgun from the suspects.
All four suspects are currently in police custody at Enchi.
