UniBank Limited, an indigenous private bank, has donated a vehicle, roofing sheets and a cheque of GH¢100,000 to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
The gesture is to equip the organization towards likely mishaps in this year’s rainy season and also battle the Fall Army Worms (FAW) infestation that has affected farms in some nine regions of the country.
Clifford Mettle, Director, Marketing and Alternate Channels of UniBank, presenting the items, said that as part of the company’s corporate social responsibilities, it has to intervene in matters that affect society in the areas of education, environment and health care.
“UniBank as an indigenous bank, has been scouting and monitoring the activities in the country because we are an indigenous Ghanaian bank and therefore when we see that there are disasters in the country we feel that it is our obligation to assist.
“We realized that the rains have caused a lot of destruction of properties in some schools, including the Prempeh College and Opoku Ware, not forgetting the army worm invasion on farmlands which is a very sensitive situation and requires immediate attention,” he averred.
“It is for this reason and other unexpected disasters which we are likely to face as a country, especially in this rainy season, that we as a bank decided to make this donation.” he added.
Eric Nana Agyeman Prempeh, Director General of NADMO, receiving the items, said that the gesture was a timely one, adding that the organization had had to deal with a lot of disasters including rainfall, fire outbreaks and the recent army worm invasion on some farms in the last few months.
Mr. Agyeman added, “For the past five years the NADMO has not received any vehicle of any kind to facilitate its operations and we are very happy that UniBank has set the pace for such donations to be done.”
