… 6 Arrested At Tarkwa

The late Capt. Maxwell Mahama

Six residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region, who were allegedly found in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region after the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, have been apprehended.

The suspects – three males and three females, aged between 20 and 30 – had purportedly sought refuge at Tarkwa following the recent murder of the army captain in the Central Region.

According to sources, the six suspects were arrested together with their hosts by a joint police and military team at Akoon, a suburb of Tarkwa.

Captain Mahama was lynched last week Monday by a mob at Denkyira-Obuasi, who allegedly mistook him for an armed robber.

The names of the arrested suspects were given as Fosu Evans, Fosu Prince,  Fosu Joseph, Joyce Amankwa, Perpetual Owusu and Benefactor Obeng.

The hosts were also mentioned as George Brefo, Grace Amankwa, Eugene Brefo, Alfred Kojo Enim and Isaac Brefo.

Speaking to journalists, Supt Augustine Anyarah, Tarkwa Divisional Crime Officer, said that on June 3, 2017, the police had a tip-off that the suspects and their three children had come to seek refuge with their relatives at Akoon.

He indicated that when a team of police and military officers went to the said house, they arrested six people from Denkyira-Obuasi and the five members of the family they were living with.

Mr. Anyarah pointed out that though the suspects might not be directly involved in the killing, they might have information to help the police arrest the perpetrators of the crime.

He indicated that the suspects had been taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Accra for further interrogation.

Supt Anyarah assured Ghanaians that the police were making every effort to arrest all those connected to the crime and appealed to the public to provide any information on the military officer’s death to the police to speed up the processes for prosecution.
