A section of the BECE candidates
A total number of 40,406 students from 810 schools are taking part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Northern Region. The number includes 22,170 males and 18,236 females.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, visited some of the examination centres and advised the students to comport themselves and put in enough efforts to enable them excel in the examination.
He stated that the candidates represent a special generation as they would be the first batch of students to enjoy government’s free senior high school policy.
According to him, President Nana Akufo-Addo had assured students who would pass the BECE that they would get the chance of entering the SHS without paying any fees.
“His Excellency Nana Addo has seen that it is important he brings out a policy that will help you go into SHS come September, 2017 free without paying fees,” he recalled.
The Northern Regional Director of Education, Alhaji Mohammed Haron, urged invigilators and teachers to adhere to examination rules to prevent malpractices.
He warned that any teacher or student who would be involved in examination leakages/malpractices would be dealt with severely if they were caught.
Alhaji Haron also advised the teachers to create a congenial atmosphere for the pupils to reduce fear in them.
