All set For Commonwealth Youth Games

Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the forthcoming Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas, Mawuko Afadzinu says preparations have reached roof level for the juvenile games.

He said in a press briefing yesterday that a 23-member contingent comprising 12 players and 11 officials will represent Ghana in the Bahamas Games from July 19 to 23.

Team Ghana is expected to fly out of the country this Saturday, transit in London and continue to the host city the following day.

He indicated that “We have to be diligent, disciplined and dedicated in all we do during our stay together to make our families and colleagues happy and to give our country every reason to believe in the future.

“The primary objective is to create the desire in our athletes for competition and also to give them the platform to demonstrate their talents.

” The secondary objective is to return home with laurels. Everything is set, the GOC and the Youth and Sports Ministry have teamed up perfectly to make this happen, and this gives the assurance that the future looks bright for other disciplines.”

Ghana will be competing in disciplines such as tennis, athletics, beach volley, swimming, cycling, boxing and judo.

GOC president Ben Nunoo Mensah in a release indicated that “You are leaving as athletes, come back as champions. Never forget that how well you do would create a lot of opportunities for yourselves, your fellow athletes who were not in Bahamas and Ghana sports. Give Ghana reason to continue to support you.”
