Corporal Daniel Owusu
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has set aside an amount of GH¢10,000 as reward to anyone who provides information that can lead to the arrest of suspected armed robbers who killed a police constable at Abeka Lapaz on Thursday afternoon.
Constable Daniel Owusu of the Tesano Community Policing Unit was on motorbike patrolling with another colleague when two suspected armed robbers shot him.
Another personnel (name withheld), who also received gunshot wounds, is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.
“It is sad to note that a few criminally-minded groups and individuals continue to perpetrate violence on our hardworking officers, as well as members of the public,” the IGP bemoaned.
Mr Asante-Apeatu pointed out that at the appropriate time, the police administration would ensure that all men wear their proper gear when on official duties.
He, however, admitted that the Police Service lacks logistics and working gears.
It is believed that there are not enough bullet proofs for men who embark on patrol duties.
The two policemen attached to the Community Policing Unit, Tesano, according to information, were patrolling the area using a motorbike when they had information that armed men had attacked someone in front of Las Palmas Restaurant at Lapaz.
In the full glare of traders and other travelers, the armed men were said to have abandoned their motorbike, snatched a metallic ash Hyundai Elantra car from its driver and sped off towards Awoshie, Mallam Junction direction.
