GOIL Named 2016 Overall Best OMC

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC-GH) has adjudged GOIL, a Ghanaian owned oil company with the largest market share, as the Overall Best Oil Marketing Company (OMC) for 2016.

The award is in recognition of GOIL’s decision to maintain prices of its petroleum products last year and early this year when most OMCs increased theirs.

But GOIL, early 2017, denied claims that its decision to maintain prices of petroleum products for the second pricing window in January 2017 was a deliberate attempt to distort pricing in the petroleum downstream sector.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GOIL, Patrick A.K. Akorlie, was also adjudged as the best CEO.

He expressed appreciation to COPEC and its Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah.

Some industry players, who were recognized, included Kwasi Zigah of Petrosol – Best Marketing Personality for the year and Ebenezer Agyekum-Boateng, Best Petroleum News reporter.

Shell Ghana won the best corporate brand, best fuel service station and best corporate social initiative while Total Ghana also won the best customer service and best safety brand.

Popular Choice Award went to Agapet Oil while Petrosol was adjudged the fastest growing oil marketing company of the year.

The criteria, according to the Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah, for some of the categories, are industry specific while other categories had the public voting across some fuel stations in the country.

Mr. Amoah explained that the recognitions were purely consumer chosen particularly on the OMC’s relationship with customers.
