The Chefs Association of Ghana (CAG) has indicated that it’s preparing a team from Ghana to go to South Africa to compete in the All African Ibizo HAAPI programme.
The HAAPI programme is an international cooking competition that affords participating countries new skills in modern cooking trends to be able to deal with international cuisine.
According to Chef Isaac Sakey, President of Chefs Association of Ghana, 10 delegates comprising six chefs and four students will this year represent Ghana in the competition.
He said the association continues to make passionate appeal to corporate bodies, institutions, philanthropists and individuals to support CAG both cash and kind “to enable us prepare adequately to participate in all HAAPI programmes.”
The competition, which comes off next month, is engineered by Africa Chefs Untied Championship in South Africa.
It would not only expose CAG to compete favourably with the rest of Africa but would also propel our members to develop their career and win medals for Ghana.
However, he added: “We are yet to acquire the needed financial support to enable us prepare and participate fully in the various competitions.
“We are therefore appealing to corporate Ghana to come to our aid and help us bridge the gap between Chefs Association of Ghana and other African Chefs Association, who are able to travel around to gain exposure and experience for this competition.”
“We have no doubt that we are on the right path and making great progress in our career. “We are confident about how it will go, however, training alone will not be enough. We need to be out there to compete with the others on a regular basis so that we can gain experience, and be abreast of modern trends in cooking. We have never been afraid to take risks and we will always look for the opportunity to prove ourselves.”
He also said Ghana was bound for great success in the Mandela challenge and beyond, adding “it’s our dream to become one of the best in West Africa.”
