Blows Over MMT Position

Ayisi Boateng

Ghana’s Ambassador to South Africa, Ayisi Boateng, has called for calm over the Kumasi Depot Metro Mass Transit (MMT) saga.

He passionately called for peace and the respect of the law so as to avert any bloodbath over the MMT issue.

Two Appointments

His appeal follows a report that two New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwarts in Kumasi have been appointed at the same time to manage the facility.

The two persons are Daniel Agyenim Boateng, the acting Ashanti Regional NPP Organizer and Nicholas Oduro, a key party member in the area.

Verbal Onslaught

The aforementioned persons have been talking to radio stations in Kumasi since last week over the matter, claiming that they had been duly appointed.

Daniel Agyenim Boateng insisted that he was the first person to be appointed for the enviable position as the Kumasi Depot MMT Manager.

Mr Boateng said he would visit the MMT offices and start work, noting that his appointment had not been revoked.

On his part, Nicholas Oduro stated that Agyenim Boateng’s appointment had been annulled and that he had been appointed to manage the facility.

Tension

The utterances of the two NPP men caused tension in Kumasi, as their supporters vowed to storm the MMT Depot at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi last week.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command quickly sent armed police personnel to guard the place to avert chaos.

Reports indicated that the policemen stopped the two feuding party supporters from clashing at the place.

Ayisi Boateng’s Advice

Mr. Ayisi Boateng, a founding member of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, stated that the two people should exercise patience and allow the relevant authorities to make a decisive decision over the matter to avert problems.

Mr. Boateng called on the party’s supporters to give the young NPP administration time to implement its policies, and not distract it with riotous behaviour.
