A ROMAN Priest stole the show with exquisite traditional ‘Kete’ dance during a grand durbar to welcome Malta President, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
The Maltese leader was welcomed to the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the seat of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on Thursday with a durbar.
And Rev. Dr. Dr. Patrick Nkrumah, a Roman Priest at Abesim in the Brong Ahafo Region, who was present at the event, was the toast of the people who graced the event.
It was when he took the floor at the time MC for the event, Kwame Adinkra, an ace Broadcast Journalist, invited the ‘Kete’ drummers to entertain the guests.
Minutes after the drummers started hitting the drums, Rev. Dr. Dr. Nkrumah, who was dressed in cassock, got up from his seat and dashed to the middle of the durbar grounds. He then displayed some traditional gestures, in a form of a dance, to Otumfuo. The signs were meant to ask for the King’s permission to dance at the function.
The Roman Priest, who is also a Senior Lecturer at the Catholic University College, then zoomed into action displaying excellent ‘kete’ dancing skills.
All the people at the function were thrilled, following the perfect traditional dancing steps the Roman Priest exhibited.
At a point, Otumfuo was even seen beaming with broad smiles as he intermittently nodded his head in admiration.
The Maltese president, who doesn’t know anything about Asante culture and ‘Kete’ dance, was even impressed as she joined the people to clap for the priest.
