Parents Fret Over Overloaded Prospectus

SOME PARENTS in the Brong Ahafo Region have complained bitterly about the high number of items some SHS schools have listed on their prospectus for parents to purchase for their wards before they come to school, saying it makes meaningless of the government Free SHS Policy.

Some parents whose wards have been placed in Sunyani Senior High School but want anonymity walked to DAILY GUIDE office yesterday at Sunyani to find out whether parents are obliged to buy all the items listed on the school’s prospectus. The items, they say, are too many whilst others also think some of the items on the list are unnecessary accusing headmistresses and headmasters of trying to sabotage the government’s efforts of implementing the Free SHS policy.

The headmistress of Sunyani Senior High School, Mrs. Georgina Boakye speaking to DAILY GUIDE on the concerns of parents however said it was not compulsory for parents to buy all the items on the prospectus saying what they gave out is only provisional.

She explained that a few of the items on the list are to be borne by government like the two pairs of school uniforms which is to be supplied by the school.

According to Madam Georgina Boakye, though the prospectuses from the schools were not sanctioned by government across board, there is not much difference among them. She explained that though her school made a request for 1,100 placements but she could not tell how many students the computerized placement system would be posting to her school. Here are the prospectuses for both St James and Susec:
