Pupils busy at work on their products

Over 30 pupils selected from basic schools in the Lower Manya Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region who participated in the 2017 edition of the Eastern Regional Science Technology Mathematics and Innovation Education (STMIE) Clinic were honoured for their exceptional performance in the technology fair.

They received certificates of participation and an undisclosed cash rewards.

The weeklong event which attracted participants from 19 districts within the Eastern Region was held under the theme: ‘equipping the youth to solve environmental challenges as a result of climate change’ at the New Juaben Senior High School (SHS) at Koforidua.

The set task for the pupils was to design innovative machinery and sustainable strategies for solving environmental challenges.

According to the Lower Manya Municipal STMIE Coordinator, Samuel Kpaabitey, the clinic was a platform to give pupils comprehensive training in science education as well as demystify pupils’ fear of the science-related subjects.

He mentioned that with support from the Lower Manya Municipal Assembly, the Education Directorate hosted its clinic at the Zimmerman Presby School at Odumase (Lower Manya) to adequately supervise the presentations of the pupils ahead of the regional event.

The pupils representing schools in the Lower Manya Municipal Assembly presented products they made from waste products such as plastics, wood pieces and metals.

Some of these products are waste collection truck with hydraulic devices, plastic canopy, bags, among countless others.

“Our pupils’ performance at the technology and innovation fair is enough indicators that we are training great thinkers in the municipality and for me this is a stepping stone to help intensify STMIE among all our school,” Mr Kpaabitey revealed.

The Municipal Director of Education for Lower Manya Rose Yaa Akanyi paid glowing tribute to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Simon Kwaku Tetteh, for supporting the municipal STMIE Clinic.

“Today, our faces beam in smiles for the success story of how great innovations that abound in our municipality and my call to teachers is for them to work hard using resourceful teaching approaches which can help pupils uncover their talents for national development,” she stated.
