Board For Prof. Asante Communication Centre Inaugurated

Professor Samuel Kwadwo Boaten Asante

A GOVERNING Board has been inaugurated for Professor Samuel Kwadwo Boaten Asante and his wife’s Community and Information Centre in the Eastern Region recently.

The Centre itself was commissioned in April this year by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Asante, Paramount Chief of Asante Asokore, explained that to fully realize the potential of the Centre, the board would be required to generally seek advice and support from experts and individuals who have distinguished themselves both nationally and internationally in the field of ICT.

“To this end, I am happy to bring along with me Miss Dorothy Gordon, a renowned Ghanaian technology activist and development specialist,” he told the gathering during the inauguration, adding that “she (Gordon) was the founding Director General of the highly reputed Ghana India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.”

“Ms. Dorothy Gordon has shown tremendous interest ever since I informed her of our desire to establish a Communication Information Centre within the Akyem-Wenchi Education Circuit. Indeed, it was she who readily released two of her reliable and competent staff to drive down to Soabe to access and identify  all that the Centre required for its effective operation,” he indicated.

“We are again extremely happy to have as Member of the Board Mr. Abraham Kofi Asante, Administrator of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), which makes communication accessible to the nation,” he noted.

“On the whole, it is hoped that the Centre would have a positive impact on teaching and learning in the Akyem-Wenchi Education Circuit and beyond; affect the delivery of education and enable  wider access  to the same; increase flexibility so that learners can access the education  regardless of  time and geographical  barriers; and finally influence the way students are taught and how they learn.”

“To this end, the Board has a major responsibility of seeing to it that the full potential of the Centre would be realized. The Board members should be aware that in this world, each has his own appointed task, each his own race to run. Life’s glory is no rank or fame but duty able done,“ he philosophised.
