Assemblies Asked To Donate GH¢130,000 For President’s Visit

Salifu Saeed – Northern Regional Minister

A document sighted by DAILY GUIDE has revealed that all the 26 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Region have been tasked to raise GH¢5,000 each.

According to the document, the total amount of GH¢130,000 will be used towards President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s slated 3-day visit to the region.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to embark on a 3-day official visit to the three regions of the north, beginning 6th and ending on 8th October, 2017.

In a letter to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs)  with reference number AC262/412/01/53, signed by Alhassan Issahaku, Chief Director on behalf of the Regional Minister, it directed all MMDCEs to raise  GH¢5,000 each towards the visit.

“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana will undertake a 3-day tour of the region from 6th to 8th October, 2017, the letter indicated

and added, “In the bid to put together the required arrangements for a successful tour, each assembly is required to contribute an amount of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢5,000) payable by Monday, 2nd October, 2017.”

However, some of the MMDCEs said they had not received any letter asking them to make contributions.

DCE for Chereponi, Abdul Tahiru was very emphatic that no letter had been sent to him asking him to pay GH¢5,000.

Attempts to reach the regional minister were unsuccessful as calls made to him were not answered.

It is unclear if the various MMDCEs will be able to raise such an amount before the deadline due to some challenges the assemblies go through in raising their Internally Generated Funds (IGFs).
