10 Killed In Yutong Bus Crash

TEN PERSONS have been confirmed dead in an accident that occurred at Nkawkaw on the Accra-Kumasi highway in the Eastern Region at dawn on Sunday. It involved a Yutong bus and an articulator truck.

The Director of the Nkawkaw Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Supt. Yahaya Muchiraru, who briefed DAILY GUIDE after the gory accident, said the Yutong bus, with 47 passengers on board, collided with the truck, which was loaded with bags of rice at the Nkawkaw bypass, killing 10 persons at the spot while 30 others sustained various degrees of injury.

Supt. Muchiraru said the driver of the Yutong bus – with registration number GM 2212-16 – one Emmanuel Adofo, was in police custody.   Adofo, 40 years of age, the police officer said, was driving from Kumai and heading for Accra at top speed when the vehicle collided with a Man Diesel articulator truck with registration number ER  917-A.

The MTTD boss said the injured persons, including the articulator driver, were on admission at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital receiving treatment while the bodies of those who could not survive had been deposited at the same health facility pending autopsy.

Supt. Yahaya Muchiraru intimated that the Yutong driver would be processed for court today as investigation continues.
