Nana Commissions $55m Wa Water Project

President Akufo-Addo has commissioned the $55.50 million Wa Water Project at Jambusie, as part of his 2-day duty tour of the Upper West Region.

The project, which was constructed with a facility from the Korean Exim Bank, will supply 3.3 million gallons of water per day to the 100,705 residents of Wa.

Commissioning it, President Akufo-Addo said it was a very happy day for him, “especially as the project was begun at the time of the great Ghanaian leader, John Agyekum Kufuor.”

He disclosed that it was under ex-President Kufuor’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration that the financing for the project was secured, as far back as 2008, but after he had left office that same year, it took five years under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for the construction to begin.

The president assured residents of the region of more such projects.

President Akufo-Addo indicated that there are various projects that are in the pipeline, and the Wa Water is the first, stressing that his government, as contained in the 2016 manifesto of the NPP, would pursue a ‘Water For All’ agenda, which will ensure that every Ghanaian has access to potable water.

He urged residents of Wa to use the water with care.

“Turn off the taps when not in use; continue to conserve water and settle the little bills that would come so that the project would continue to run and provide you with the service,” the president charged.

According to him, his government is determined to realize all the commitments made to Ghanaians in the run-up to last year’s elections.

He stated that the Free Senior High School policy, which he launched on 12th September, 2017, should be a reference point that he is indeed committed to fulfilling all promises made to Ghanaians.

President Akufo-Addo conveyed the gratitude of government and the people of the Upper West Region to the Korean government for the assistance.

He said the development of Korea – from a situation like that of Ghana’s to become one of the leading economies of the world – greatly inspires him.
