Porter Girls Get Yvonne Nduom Dormitory

The dormitory being outdoored

The Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Area has benefitted from the Groupe Nduom Foundation through the construction of a dormitory block to accommodate the ever increasing school population.

The dormitory block christened: “Yvonne Sterlin Nduom” is named after the benefactor, who happened to be an old girl of the school as well as the initiator and financier of the project.

The project forms part of Groupe Nduom’s initiative of giving back to the society and general contribution to improve upon quality education in the country.

The new dormitory which was constructed by York properties would accommodate 200 students and has two bedroom flat as accommodation for the house mistresses.

Presenting the keys of the dormitory to the Headmistress of the School, Mrs.  Nduom stated that her passion for girl-child education motivated her to build the dormitory for the school.

“Education is very dear to my husband and so we have set up an education fund which we are using to provide infrastructural support and provide scholarship for intelligent but needy students to ensure that no child is left out in education in this country”

The wife of the businessman/politician Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom recounted the role her Alma mater played in her formative stage in life and said it was only prudent that she contributed to the ever growing success story of the school.

She said,  ” most of my character was moulded here, my very best friends were met here over 50 years ago, we were given not only academic knowledge, but invaluable life skills which went a long way to make me a lady of substance now… So my heart is full of joy standing on this ground to donate this edifice to my Alma mater”

She admonished the students to make good use of the facility to enhance their academic performance.

The Archbishop Porters Girl is one of the top schools within the Western Region and currently ranked ninth in the list of best schools in Ghana.

The school now has four dormitories to accommodate students and would help to ease the pressure on the existing facilities.

Mrs Mary Ama Brako, Headmistress of the school appreciated Groupe Nduom for the kind gesture stating that the new dormitory has come at the right time.

The headmistress disclosed that Mrs Nduom has donated also a photocopier to the school for administrative work.

The school appealed for musical instruments and beds to help the school in socialisation and comfortable sleep respectively.
