Akosua Adjepong Granted Bail

Akosua Adjepong

An Accra circuit court trying celebrated Ghanaian musician, Akosua Adjepong, has granted her a GH¢160,000 bail after pleadings by her counsel, G H Quist.

The bail terms include three sureties, one of whom must be a civil or public servant earning not less than GH¢2,000 a month.

She was dragged before the court two weeks ago for defrauding one Jonas Asamoah an amount of GH¢160,000 and a Toyota RAV 4 valued at GH¢100,000.

Madam Akosua Adjepong, together with a building contractor – Frank Agyemang Badu alias Killer Boss – is standing trial for conspiracy to commit crime and fraudulent transaction of land.

She was absent at the last sitting as Mr G.H Quist presented the court with a letter that she was indisposed.

Her accomplice, Frank Agyemang Badu, was in court on that day and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢160,000 with three sureties, after he had pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

At yesterday’s sitting, Akosua also pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit crime and fraudulent transaction of land.

The court, presided over by Priscilla Mireku, granted Akosua Adjepong bail while adjourning the case to November 13, 2017.

The facts of the case as presented by ASP Agnes Boafo are that during the month of February, 2017, the complainant contacted Akosua Adjepong that he wanted a parcel of land by the roadside to display his vehicles for sale.

She said Akosua told the complainant that she had a plot of land for rent but the complainant maintained that he wanted to buy it outright.

Madam Akosua Adjepong later introduced the second accused person – Frank Agyemang Badu – to the complainant as her brother who had one plot of land opposite the West Hills Mall for sale.

After inspecting the land, the complainant expressed concern but asked for genuine documents for verification at the Lands Commission.

But Akosua Adjepong convinced the complainant that the land was genuine and as far as she was concerned, Frank Agyemang Badu was the rightful owner.

ASP Agnes Boafo told the court that Akosua and her accomplice then took the complainant to the Lands Commission where a supposed official of the commission came out to confirm to the complainant that the land truly belonged to Frank Agyemang Badu.

The three then arrived at GH¢160,000 as the price for the land after a lengthy bargaining.

The prosecutor said the complainant made a part payment of GH¢105,000 to the two and further released a Toyota RAV 4 valued at GH¢100,000 to Frank so that he could add another plot of land located behind the West Hills Mall.

After the complainant had made the payments, Akosua and her accomplice then furnished the complainant with land documents which were in the name of one Dora Amosi Okyere and not Frank Agyemang Badu as the complainant was made to believe.

The complainant, having made payment for the land, went to begin working on it but was confronted by one Jonathan Asante, who claimed ownership of the land and had the original documents to the land.

He then tried to locate Akosua Adjepong and her accomplice to retrieve the money but to no avail; and after the police had been informed about it, the two persons were arrested.
