Suspect Issah Abdul Mubarik
The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested Issah Abdul Mubarik, 34, from Bawku in the Upper East for posing as a military office.
A search conducted by the police in the suspect’s room at Dungu revealed two sets of military uniforms bearing the name A. Mubarik, a pair of military trousers, two military pullovers, two military vests, a military combat boot, a military cup, a pair of military gloves, two pieces of 9mm ammunition, a rubber stamp bearing the name of Pay Regiment, Burma Camp Accra and some forged certificates.
During investigations, the suspect told police that the military accoutrements belonged to his grandfather who was a soldier.
Briefing the media, the Tamale Metro Police Commander, Supt. Dinam Zoiku, said the suspect went to the Tamale District Police dressed in military uniform and handed over a suspect he claimed stole his motorbike some months ago.
According to the police, the suspect told the police he was a soldier with the 6BN in Tamale and went ahead to write same in his statement to the police.
The information presented by the suspect was suspicious and upon further interrogation he admitted he was not a soldier and that the military accoutrements belonged to his grandfather.
The Tamale Metro Police Commander, Supt. Dinam Zoiku, advised the youth to desist from parading as security personnel.
He stated that possessing of police or security uniform without a reasonable excuse constitutes a criminal offence and punishable under the law.
Supt. Dinam Zoiku urged members of the general public, who have been defrauded by the suspect, to report to the nearest police station.
After police investigations, the suspect would be arraigned before court.
