Alfred Woyome
The much-anticipated oral examination of embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, by the Attorney General (AG) – which was expected to resume yesterday – has been adjourned again.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) financier was expected to step into the dock again to be orally examined by Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, in connection with his GH¢51.2 indebtedness to the state.
It could however, not come off as counsel for Mr. Woyome and the Deputy A.G went into chambers with the sole judge hearing the case, Justice A.A Bening, which lasted for a few minutes.
Mr. Woyome as usual, was nowhere near the court premises, leaving many to wonder what could be the reason for his absence this time.
Officials from the Lands Commission who were expected to come and provide the court with some information regarding Mr. Woyome’s properties were also absent.
No official reason has been assigned to Mr. Woyome’s absence, nor the Lands Commission officials.
The case has been adjourned to November 13, 2017.
In July this year, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame began an inquiry into the sources of income and assets of Mr. Woyome in order to recover the fraudulent judgment debt (of GH¢51.2 million) he collected from the state.
At the last hearing of the case, the Supreme Court dismissed two motions filed by lawyers of the embattled businessman against the state.
Lawyers for the NDC guru had filed the two fresh motions at the court in an attempt to delay the payment of the huge money paid to him by the erstwhile NDC government as judgement debt.
One of the motions sought to declare the order by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to evaluate the businessman’s properties as ‘unlawful,’ while the other was seeking to stop the oral examination proceedings.
