‘We’ll Lose Again If Report Is Kept Secret’

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah

Presidential hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekwow Spio-Garbrah wants the Kwesi Botchwey report made available to members of the party at all levels to avoid defeat in the next general elections.

The grassroots of the party, he explains, must not be kept in the dark regarding the content of the report as they are major stakeholders in the party.

He continued that the grassroots of the umbrella fraternity are its basic unit and that if they are sidelined in the dictates of the report, then the party risks repeating same mistakes at the branch level which will trickle up to the national level thereby jeopardizing a potential victory for the party in 2020.

He warned that the party indeed is at a high risk of going into the 2020 elections with a broken leg, saying “unless the party comes to understand properly and thoroughly, the 2016 lost through the Kwesi Botchwey report, we will go into 2020 and probably make the same mistakes.”

The national executives of the party have refused to make details of the report public, months after it was presented to them. The report is a painstaking work by a committee set up by the party to examine what led to the party’s defeat in the 2016 general elections.

Though some media houses have made several publications, which they attributed to the report, the party has come out strongly to debunk them.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Starr News’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour on the sidelines of the party’s Unity Walk in Cape Coast, the former trade minister called for the divulging of the details of the report to the various branches of the party to salvage the party from further disintegration.

“It is like the NDC car is broken and we don’t know what kind of oil to be used to grease the car to make it better, then we will go into 2020 to still make mistakes.”
