Chancellor presenting medallion of office to the new Vice Chancellor
Professor Bill Buenar Puplampu has been inducted as the second Vice Chancellor of Central University at a colourful ceremony held at the main campus at Miotso, Accra.
Prof Puplampu, an expert in Organisational Behaviour, took over from the foundation Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, who completed his tenure.
Prof Kwesi Yankah helped Central to attain Presidential Charter to become a fully-fledged University.
Prior to the new position, Prof Puplampu served as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Central University for two terms.
He also worked in various capacities at the University of Ghana and served as external examiner for both local and international universities.
He has taught various courses and offered seminars for both graduate and undergraduate students in business, psychology at the University of Ghana, University of East London, University of Westminster and Central University.
In his induction speech, Prof Puplampu, the first Vice Chancellor to be appointed from within the university, pledged to continue the good works of his predecessor.
He outlined his vision for the university which includes creating sound academic credential and system that will make it the preferred destination for private studies, transforming the institution into a truly Christian university with vibrate intellectual climate to train ethical students, developing an international research standard, scholarships and advocacy footprint.
The new Vice Chancellor said he intends to make the university financially stable, eliminate examination malpractices, as well as build teaching hospital.
According to him, “Mr Chancellor if we achieve this vision, it will catapult and transform this university into the icon that we best believe in.”
In his welcome address, Rev Dr. Mensa Otabil, commended the foundation Vice Chancellors and all stakeholders who helped in nurturing the university to its present stage
He expressed the hope that the new Vice Chancellor would effectively steer the affairs of the institution.
“We hope that you will answer the difficult but crucial questions of how we can become and remain a Christian university, how to become a citadel of knowledge and development in a society which increasingly commodifies knowledge.”
Dr Otabil encouraged him with the charge God gave Joshua in the Holy Bible as he took over the leadership of Israel by quoting Joshua 1:6-9.
Prof Kwesi Yankah, who is now Minister of Education in-charge of tertiary education, was optimistic the new Vice Chancellor would excel.
According to him, Prof Puplampu’s talents and links both local and international would project the image of the university.
The event was attended by ministers of state, Members of Parliament, members of the clergy, traditional rulers, representatives of sister universities, members of the Central University Council, staff and students of the university, as well as family members of the new VC.
