The injured driver
Two Fulani herdsmen, who are terrorizing residents in Kwahu, have attacked four mourners at Suminakese in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region.
The Assemblyman for the Hweehwee Electoral Area, Solomon Aboagye, who confirmed the incident to Agoo Fm, an Nkawkaw based radio station, said the police were informed of the dastardly attack by the herdsmen.
He said, “The Fulanis ambushed them in the tax and fired continuously at the car. The taxi driver sustained a deep cut on the head in the process. He is currently on admission at the hospital in the area.”
The taxi driver said, “I was from Suminakese, the road is bad so I drove slowly and all of a sudden, I saw an armed Fulani herdsman who asked me to stop, he cocked the gun, then another one also appeared from the bush pointing the gun on me.
“So I accelerated and he fired the gun but missed and hit the windscreen which splashed on my face and head. I managed to escape with the passengers onboard,” he narrated.
Ten persons have died since violence erupted some weeks ago while three others have sustained gunshot wounds.
About 85 armed police personnel have been deployed to the affected areas to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Security Council is considering the relaunch of “Operation Cowleg” to help avert clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in the Kwahu enclave.
The Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfour earlier told the media that “the council is of the opinion that if funds could be made available for Operation Cowleg just as it’s being done for the Operation Vanguard, then a lot could be achieved. REGSEC will propose it to National Security for consideration.”
