Lebanese Arrested For Raping House Girl

Rabih Haddad

A 39-year-old Lebanese has been arrested by the East Legon Police for allegedly raping his 19-year-old house help in his Airport Hills residence, Accra.

The suspect, Rabih Haddad, was reportedly arrested Sunday night by four policemen after medical report from the victim was said to have proved that she had sexually been assaulted.

The case, according to earlier reports, was first lodged at the Airport police station Saturday evening – a day after the incident.

But a police woman on duty reportedly led the victim to the suspect’s house to pick her belongings after which she allegedly collected an amount of GH¢350 from the Lebanese possibly to pacify the victim so that she would not take any action.

According to reports, the alleged rape took place when the man’s wife was not around.

The victim, who was not satisfied with the way the Airport Police handled the case, reported it again to the East Legon Police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The Accra Regional Police spokeswoman, ASP Efia Tenge, told DAILY GUIDE that the Airport Police first received a case of assault from the victim and not rape.

She said the police woman on duty gave the victim a medical form to seek medical attention after which an arrest would be made, but the victim insisted that the woman rather led her to the suspect’s house to collect her belongings.

The PRO said since the victim refused to collect the medical report, the police led her to the Airport Hills residence of the suspect to collect her belongings.

She claimed Rabih Haddad gave the victim, who had been working in the house for a month, her monthly salary of GH¢350 for quitting the job.

“If the victim had reported a case of rape against her employer, the police would have taken action, but she rather reported that her employer had given her some beatings without giving reasons for the action,” she added.

How It Happened

Narrating how the whole incident happened to the East Legon police, the young lady, who was said to be traumatized as a result of the alleged action by her employer, said she started work in the house in November and that her employer persistently harassed her anytime his wife was not at home.

She said on that fateful Saturday, after the suspect’s wife had gone out with two of her colleagues and their children, her boss ordered her to go and have a bath.

She said she went to shower and headed to her bedroom but the suspect did not give her the chance to dress up and rather commanded her to prepare coffee for him in the kitchen, which is closer to the master bedroom.

The victim indicated that while in the kitchen, the suspect entered, locked up the door, pulled her to his bedroom and forcibly had sex with her.

The victim claimed she attempted to escape but the suspect pounced on her like a beast and overpowered after receiving some slaps.

Meanwhile, a police source at the East Legon Police station has indicated that Haddad had denied the allegation leveled against him.

The matter is still under investigation.
