Sheikh IC Quaye
A group of concerned Muslims has commended the Ghana Hajj Board for the manner in which it arranged the shipment of pilgrims’ luggage back to the country.
In a correspondence to DAILY GUIDE, the group, made up of a dozen persons, who claim to have performed the pilgrimage and had to wait for six weeks or so for the arrival of their luggage, stated that “we had nearly given up hope of getting the luggage intact until the announcement was made that alas we could come and make claims for them at the Hajj Village and the Tamale Sports Stadium respectively.”
Alhaji Isa Wahab, who signed the statement on behalf of the group, especially commended the Chairman of the Ghana Hajj Board Shiekh IC Quaye, who in spite of his age, was on his feet throughout the pilgrimage just to ensure all worked according to plan.
“No wonder he attracted a number of awards from respectable organizations in the Saudi Kingdom,” they said.
The group demanded of Islamic clerics to do something about the unruliness of Ghanaian pilgrims, especially the ladies who they claimed exhibit gross indiscipline in a country where such conduct is anathema.
They have also called on the authorities to engage a lot of Muslim security agents for future pilgrimages so they can ensure the much-needed discipline on such missions.
The group entreated Muslims to detach Hajj matters from politics by regarding it as a purely faith affair and treat it as such.
Pilgrims who had to wait for the arrival of their luggage have all claimed their belongings in both Accra and Tamale.
A thanksgiving service was held at the Hajj Village to precede the distribution of the luggage to their respective owners, a religious programme which attracted Muslims from all walks of life.
