The Suspects
The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong, has disclosed to DAILY GUIDE that the case involving six persons arrested with pump action guns had been transferred to the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for forensic investigation.
According to him, it had come to the notice of the command that unregistered guns and weapons are circulating in the region.
He said as a result, the police had intensified searches at the various check points in the region.
DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong gave the assurance that the police would do all they could to ensure the safety and peace of the region for law abiding citizens.
The suspects are Haruna Issah, 30, driver; Jabruk Enwoyo, 37, farmer; Danso Suuk (wife of Jabuuk Enwoyo), 30, farmer; Tekuo Kwabena, 30, farmer; Frank Fuseini, 42, farmer and Tahiru Ayariga 55.
Kwabena Tekuo has since owned up as the owner of the weapons.
Meanwhile, Jabuuk Enwoyo has told DAILY GUIDE that he was never aware of the weapons in the vehicle.
He disclosed that he was at the Metro Mass bus terminal with his wife to board a bus to Bunkpurugu but they missed the bus and so they decided to board the vehicle that was intercepted by the police – since it was going towards their village.
“Myself and my wife have nothing to do with the weapons. I will never use my money to buy weapons when I can use it to pay my children’s school fees,” he said.
It will be recall that the Gambaga police intercepted a Nissan Patrol vehicle with registration number GE 5433-16, with six occupants, including the driver and one female, heading towards Namong from Tamale.
A search conducted in the vehicle led to the retrieval of six pump action guns and 130 cartridges.
The suspects have been detained while the items are in police custody.
