Suspect Samuel Nyamekye
A suspected bank thief, who allegedly broke into the banking hall of a microfinance company located at Madina, a suburb of Accra, to steal money and computers, has been grabbed by the police.
Samuel Nyamekye was arrested in the act Sunday dawn when the security man detected that the door locks had been tampered with, and called the police for assistance.
He was reportedly caught in the hall with some of the stolen items while others he allegedly picked earlier and kept behind a wall, were retrieved.
ASP Efia Tenge, Accra Regional police Public Relations Officer who briefed the media, said on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at about 2:40 am, a security man working at a microfinance company (name withheld) at Madina rushed to the station to report that he had spotted a man breaking into the banking hall.
She said police immediately proceeded to the scene and on arrival, detected that the sliding window behind the washroom attached to the office had been pushed aside.
“Further checks also revealed that the ceiling on the corridor of the washroom had been broken with suspect’s footsteps printed on the wall,” the PRO averred.
She said upon seeing the police around, Samuel Nyamekye went back into the banking hall through the broken ceiling to hide himself.
“At that moment, officials of the microfinance were called to open the main door to the hall for the police to get access into it.
“While opening the main door, officials detected that the suspect, realizing that he had been caught, locked the doors behind, using iron bars.
“At that moment, the police had to order the suspect to open the door from behind, which he did, leading to his arrest.
“The three stolen laptop computers were recovered together with other items,” ASP Tenge narrated.
