Traders at the Takoradi Market Circle have been asked to pay GH¢5 each for some rituals to be performed to appease the Takoradi Market Circle fetish to help enhance patronage at the market.
The deity reportedly manifested through a fetish priestess who went to the market a few weeks ago to shop.
According to the fetish priestess, the deity had relocated from the market to another place because it had been starved for long and that had accounted for low patronage at the market.
A group of fetish priests and priestesses from Amanful and New Takoradi therefore stormed the market early Wednesday morning to perform the necessary rituals to appease the aggrieved deity.
Mashed yam also called “?t?” together with other items were sprinkled all over the market as part of the rituals.
Hundreds of traders were left stranded outside the market from 6am till the rituals were completed around 9:30am.
When the traders were allowed to enter the market, they were cautioned not to sweep away the mashed yam which had been sprinkled all over the market.
Sources close to the market authorities revealed that the rituals would be performed a few hours every morning till Friday.
