Jomoro NDC Chairman Suspended

Gideon Koniba

The Jomoro constituency chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western Region, Gideon Koniba, has been suspended.

He allegedly misused party funds in the run-up to the 2016 general election.

Chairman Koniba was said to have collected moneys from party members in the constituency as well as the branch in Cote d’Ivoire, intended to procure outboard motors and allegedly misapplied the funds.

He will therefore remain suspended to allow for a disciplinary committee hearing, after which a decision would be taken.

A suspension letter dated December 12, 2017 and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, stated that the Functional Executive Committee of the party on November 28, 2017, concluded that the conduct of the constituency chairman was in breach of the party’s constitution.

“Your conduct was generally considered to be unacceptable,” the suspension letter indicated, and added, “The Functional Executive Committee has referred the matter to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action.”
