A road in Kumasi looking empty
The decongestion exercise carried out on Monday by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), led by Osei Assibey Antwi, has facilitated the easy movement of people in the Central Business District (CBD) of Kumasi.
The streets in the center of the city looked tidy few hours after the exercise.
The decongestion exercise was carried out few days after the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, ordered the traders to vacate the streets.
The Bantamahene, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia issued the stern warning to the traders on behalf of his overlord, the Asantehene last week.
This was after he (Bantamahene) had accompanied the Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey to visit all the abandoned satellite markets in the city.
The Bantamahene said the chiefs would lead the crusade to relocate the traders from the streets to make Kumasi beautiful once again.
The decongestion exercise was carried out by personnel of the KMA City Guards who started their operations early.
The city guards ordered the traders to relocate to the Race Course terminal and satellite markets.
Significantly, the traders complied with the directive of the KMA City Guards, resulting in free movement of humans and vehicles in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the decongestion exercise by the KMA has been welcomed by market women at the Kumasi Central Market.
According to the market women, they recorded an improvement in sales on Monday after the hawkers were relocated.
They said people, who usually shop on the streets, have started visiting the market to buy their items, commending the KMA for a good job done.
The market women particularly commended Osei Assibey and also urged him to sustain the exercise to make Kumasi clean.
