A 77-year-old man, who can hardly walk, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly inserting his fingers into the private part of a three-year-old girl at La in the Greater Accra Region.
Sai Tortoe aka Abaalo resides in the same vicinity with the victim.
On December 2, 2017, he allegedly lured the victim and inserted his fingers into her private part on a mounted platform.
The victim, according to the police, bled profusely but did not inform her parents about the incident due to fear.
Her mother noticed the blood stains in her pants when she was bathing her the next day and quickly rushed the victim to a nearby clinic.
The victim told a nurse on duty about her ordeal.
The victim’s mother was informed and she reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Police.
Abaalo, who is facing a charge of indecent assault, pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, granted him a self-recognisance bail in the sum GH?5,000 due to his frailty.
He is to reappear on February 6, 2018.
The prosecution, led by DSP Adolphine Dzansi, told the court that children in the neighbourhood usually play in the accused person’s house because it has a big compound.
She said the accused on December 2, 2018 spotted the victim and other children playing, adding that she called her, placed her on a platform and inserted his fingers into her vagina at the blind side of the other children.
She told the court that the accused person, upon his arrest, denied the offence in his caution statement.
