Wembley Takes Astro Turf To Madina

Zongo Minister with  a shovel for the    Walewale sod cutting

Inner City and Zongo Development Minister, Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface together with chief Imam, Dr Sharubutu, yesterday, cut the sod for the construction of an artificial pitch at Madina  Zurac Park (Libya Quarters).

It is the second of the third Zongo Development Astro turf for this year after Walewale and Kyebi which would have its sod cutting ceremony on Monday.

And it is the third sod cutting in less than a week to be constructed by the Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited.

The facility, estimated to be completed in three months is expected to have a panel, mesh fencing, flood lights, spectator stands/canopy, wash and changing rooms.

The Minister, in his address, pointed out that “This inclusive multi-cultural and multi-ethics development is essential for developing any modern society. Ghana has taken the lead in Africa by establishing a Ministry to reverse and include the excluded in its development; let’s embrace and support it.

“This activity and the object of the occasion ushers us into a different era in our development process. Today marks the beginning of creating a physically uniformed, united and inclusive society where what can be found in an elite community can also be available to the people on Madina not only through television but also be available physically and for our effective use.”

He mentioned that the project attests to NPP government’s  commitment as a result  of which  the Ministry of Inner-City and Zongo Development  was established, saying “This initiative seeks to create opportunities and hope for the people in the Inner city and Zongo Communities dotted across the country.

Municipal Chief Executive of La-Nkwantanang, Madina Municipal Assembly, Jennifer Dede Afagbedzi said “The promise by President Akufo-Addo to establish the Zongo Development  Fund and the subsequent appointment of a Minister designated for Inner City and Zongo Development is a clear manifestation of his commitment to bridge the yawning gap and transform the Zongo Communities.”

General Manager, Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, Nana Antwi promised to deliver a top class facility as scheduled as it strives to fulfill its 2020 Vision of ‘One Constituency , One Artificial Pitch.

Meanwhile, a similar sod cutting ceremony on Tuesday preceded the construction of the Walewale astro-turf.
