Insurance giant, Glico has thrown its weight behind International Boxing Organization (IBO) Lightweight champion Emmanuel Tagoe ahead of his title defense against Argentine Fernando Saucedo this Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Announcing the package at its Adabraka headquarters in Accra yesterday, CEO and MD, Glico Life, Forkuo Kyei indicated that it includes a 50,000 personal accident cover for the boxer, a public liability cover of 1million cedis for all fans and an undisclosed amount to Baby Jet Promotions.

He told the press that sports and insurance are bedfellows, hence his outfit’s support for sports over three decades saying, “We have associated ourselves with sports because we have realized sports and insurance go together, we have confidence in Tagoe to make Ghana proud on Saturday.”

Tagoe, nicknamed ‘Game Boy’ described Glico’s support as unprecedented. “This cushioning is unprecedented, I have not seen such a support in my entire career, you have really demonstrated that you cushion your clients for life.

“I urge all to come to the Bukom Arena with handkerchiefs because you will have more to cheer about. I thank Glico so very much,” Tagoe said.

Likewise, Sammy Anim Addo, Baby Jet Promotions CEO, thanked Glico profusely for the support and promised to deliver an eventful showpiece.

He stated that Tagoe’s opponent is expected in the country today; officials will touch base this Thursday, while weigh-in takes place on the same day.

Anim Addo also mentioned that the sleek boxer will visit the presidency and the sports Ministry ahead of the bout.

It was Roni Yeboah, CEO of Upscale Entertainment who brokered the deal.
