The suspects in police custody
The Tesano Divisional Police Command led by Chief Superintendent Oduro Amaning yesterday at dawn conducted a swoop which led to the arrest of three women and twenty men peddling Indian hemp and tremor drug within Dome, Abofu and Akweteman areas.
Two of the ladies identified as Benedicta Ampong and Emelia Darko, according to police, were found smoking the Indian hemp when they were apprehended.
Some quantities of the drugs were seized in the course of the operation which lasted for about three hours.
Areas believed to be criminals den where suspects were apprehended included Abofu railways, Dome railways, Achimota Charcoal station, and Akweteman Zongo.
Briefing the media, the Tesano District Police Commander, Superintendent Edward Tetteh said the divisional command took the step to rid the area of criminal activities when crime began to increase after the Christmas festivities.
He said, recently, the area has been recording regular cases of bag snatching, burglaries, petty stealing, robbery and drug peddling thus forcing the police to break into the dens where the suspected criminals were believed to be hiding to arrest them.
“Some quantities of Indian hemp and the tremor drug were seized from the suspects but two of the women were also found smoking the Indian hemp during the operation.”
The district commander disclosed that the suspects will be thoroughly screened and those found culpable will be sent to court for prosecution.
