Nana Attends AU Summit In Ethiopia

President Akufo-Addo left Ghana Saturday for the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to attend the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU).

He was accompanied by a delegation, including the first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo; Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway; Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo; officials of the presidency and the foreign ministry.

They were seen off at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by senior government officials and service commanders, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The meeting of the heads of state of the AU would take place from 28th to 29th January, 2018, under the theme, “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation.”

In his absence and that of Vice President Bawumia from the country, Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, would act as president in accordance with Article 60(11) of the Constitution.

On 30th January, President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to be in South Africa to attend the funeral of a man he calls his friend – the South African trumpeter, composer and singer, Hugh Ramapolo Masekela – which would take place in Johannesburg.

President Akufo-Addo is expected back home in Ghana on Wednesday, 31st January, 2018.
